Title Design Research (Underwater)
1. How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film? Which ones?
28 titles in total, these titles included, name of studio, name of production company, actor(s) names, film title, music by, edited by, produced by, and directed by.
2. What connotations do the images carry? (how do they make you feel)
The connotations presented a very eerie feeling as if something was going to pop out and scare you especially since it "takes place" under water.
3. How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset? (Can you tell what genre the film is)
While watching this title sequence, I was thinking that this movie may be horror or thriller related. After searching up the movie to find out if I was correct, I came to find out that the genre is horror/sci-fi. I understand the horror part since the movie is underwater and the brief description is saying that they dug something up and don't know what came out. The sci-fi part is also understandable because the actors are underwater with a lot of technology surrounding them, which usually makes a movie apart of sci-fi.
4. What conventions are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?
The shots included in the title sequence provided to the suspense and eeriness of the movie by showing a high angle pointing down into the ocean with dark music that makes a person's heart race. It also includes fast zoom in shots where you see skeletons and what seems to be extinct animals that used to live in the ocean which also add to the suspense.
