Genre Research: True Crime

Since our film has something to do with someone planning to kill people, True Crime is another genre we should research. The camera angles, movements, and shots commonly used in True crime are: High and low angles, Close-up and Extreme Close-up shots, Dolly movements, Handheld shots, and over the shoulder shots. Directors like to use high angles to prove authority and power. Low angles are used to show weakness and fear. The whole idea in Crime Movies is to show the power and fear, they're very important. Close-ups and extreme close-ups are used so the audience can convey the emotions and allow the audience to kind of depict the characters mindset, can be used to give another meaning behind a character's words. Dolly Movements create a feeling of tension and urgency. Handheld shots aren't usually still. They are shaky and unstable; it gives the effect of disorientation and uncertainty. Pitch That Idea

 Pitch 1: Four friends on a vacation trip, friend that plans the trip also plans to kill everyone attending.  We would be able to do this movie because we already have a planned idea of where we can shoot our scenes and how everything would be set up. My group and I are familiar with movies with this kind of plot so we know how everything would play out. Some problems we would have with this movie is meeting up together at this location since we do not all live near it and because of our schedules outside of school. A second problem would be Florida weather, since some of our scenes are outdoors. We are currently leaning more towards this pitch.  Pitch 2: Four roommates notice an off presence in the home, call medium, are told that someone died in this house years ago and wants to kill anyone who stays in the home.  This pitch was an option that seemed okay at first, but then after reviewing it with the group it was not something that was completely suitable for the ...

Genre Research: Thriller

The genre thriller is not a sophisticated genre, it consists of many of the same elements as horror but the overall message across the board is different. While the horror genre is meant to scare you and scare you frighten; thrillers are not of the same descent. Thrillers are meant to give you a-lot of twists and turns and plot changes within a  film. The most common camera shots and movements within are usually, high angels, low angels, eye level, point of view shots, and tracking shots. These allow for the overall feel of the movie to come into play and to really be established throughout the movie. As for movements, close ups, establishing shot, trunk shots, pan etc. are frequently used in this genre. More than likely if you are watching a thriller based movie, there is a lot of running and a lot of movements, and these key movement shots are key for the different films to be not only recorded by properly understood and felt from an audience standpoint.
